Bill Herbert

Bill Herbert

For over twenty-five years Bill Herbert has contributed to the success and growth of the high-performance doors in various market segments in the North America marketplace. After a long and prosperous career, Bill has decided to retire effective December 13th, 2021.

After working as a sales representative for Peachtree Doors, Bill was hired as a regional sales manager by M & IDoors (TNR’s forerunner), in August 1996, representing the rubber door manufacturer in Western Canada.

After M & I Doors was acquired by Albany Doors in 1998, Bill took on a management role as US Sales Manager for M&I products with Albany in Atlanta for two years, and then relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico for another three years.

Reflecting on his early years selling rubber doors, Bill says, “This was very much unchartered territory in the early part of the millennium and weekly travel throughout the Western US and Canada was required to educate prospects and potential new dealers on the inherent values of the rubber door. I think we did it pretty well.”

When TNR Doors started-up in 2003, Bill jumped at the opportunity to join this exciting new entrant into the rubber door market as the Regional Sales Manager for Western Canada, joining the new team with several familiar team members from his days at M & I Doors.

Over the nearly two decades that Bill has worked as TNR’s western Regional Sales Manager, he helped establish the TNR name and the rubber door as the premier door solution to be used in the harsh, rugged environments that exist in Western Canada’s mining, oil and gas, energy production and industrial market segments.

Bill was also instrumental in building TNR’s relationship with several large dealerships in Western Canada, including Creative Door Services, Ultra Lite Doors, Zem4, Myron’s, Portal, Overhead Door branches across the West and many other dealers, creating a formidable sales network servicing all market segments in the West. These western dealers serviced a wide range of end user customers, including: Mosaic Potash, Trans-Alta’s High Vale Mine, CP Rail, Cameco, Imperial Oil, Shell Oil, Suncor, City of Edmonton, City of Lethbridge, LaFarge, Highland Valley Copper, Saskatchewan Power, Rio Tinto Alcan, Vale Inco, UPS, Vancouver Airport, DeBeers and many more.

Bill’s success has also helped TNR launch new products and enter new markets. Rubber doors are now very common in the parking industry however that has not always been the case. Bill sold some of TNR’s first parking doors as early as 2005 with end users in urban office towers, such as HSBC and Great West Life Canada. Now, rubber doors can be found in parking garages across Western Canada including Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatoon and Winnipeg. TNR’s rolling metal doors were also supported early on by Bill’s work in the west selling the HSR-007 aluminum slat door and then later on, selling Hörmann’s Speed Guardian and Steel Ranger doors in the parking, retail automotive and transportation segments.

Bill looks back fondly on his career in our industry, “The door industry has treated both me and my family extremely well over the years. I have developed many fantastic long-term relationships both within the company, and with many of the key players at the dealer level. These opportunities broadened my skills in sales and also had a great influence on me personally.”

As a younger man, prior to his career in sales, Bill played Defence in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the Windsor Spitfires. Following the OHL, Bill played professional hockey in Switzerland for five years, playing defence for the Zug Lions in the Swiss National B League. To this day, Bill continues his interest in hockey as a dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs fan.

Bill has moved to Grand Forks BC now, where he plans to retire with his wife. Bill’s retirement will be filled by visits with his two grandchildren, golfing and working on the hobby farm he and Denise moved to, in the Kootenay region of BC.
